Tasha Strigle is a mixed media artist who produces two-dimensional and relief artworks. When creating artwork, she integrates a variety of textures and builds up layers of visual interest. She also loves experimenting with materials and finding interesting ways to create contrast. Her work derives from her personal experiences, beliefs, and curiosity about nature.
Tasha studied art in college with concentrations in photography and textiles. After college, she became an art teacher. In 2020 she started making and sharing her personal artworks in earnest to cope with the stress of the Covid 19 Pandemic. That year was a turning point for her to take artmaking more seriously and to make things that were not related to her job. As the community emerged back to public events, she started entering local art shows and attending more art events.
StatementMy artistic practice revolves around the use of re-purposed materials, which I find both simple to manipulate and challenging to elevate beyond their perceived potential as discarded items. Each piece becomes a puzzle—an opportunity to discover the right materials that resonate with my vision and to transform them into something new and meaningful.
I predominantly work with found items, particularly those that have served as packaging, often combining them with acrylic media. Through layering, collaging, and assembling, I create artworks that invite viewers to reconsider the beauty and value of what is often overlooked. The act of transforming these materials is not just a creative endeavor; it is a dialogue with the objects themselves, allowing their histories to enrich the final composition.
My inspiration stems from the things I love and observe in my surroundings. I aim to reflect the intricate connections between the material world and our experiences. In each artwork, I strive to challenge the viewer’s perceptions, revealing the potential for beauty and significance in the discarded. Through this process, I hope to encourage a deeper appreciation for the everyday and inspire others to see the art that can emerge from the most unexpected places.
